Holiday Greeting - What Are You Thankful For?

November 26, 2019

Thanksgiving is all about gratitude. In 1621, the Plymouth colonists shared an autumn feast with the Wampanoag Indians. They were celebrating survival and friendship. It’s also a poignant story.1

About one-half of the passengers who traveled to the new world for 66 days on the Mayflower died during that first unforgiving winter in the new land. It’s uncertain how many would have survived the year if Squanto, a Native American who had been kidnapped into slavery and then returned to America with a party of explorers, had not taught the new arrivals how to cultivate corn, tap maple trees, catch fish in the rivers, and avoid poisonous plants. He also helped the settlers build an enduring relationship with the local Wampanoag tribe.1

Thanksgiving is a time to celebrate kinship and friendship. Maria Shriver’s Sunday Paper article suggested we take the opportunity to learn “to constructively disagree with someone you care about and still keep your friendship and/or relationship intact…It requires love, acceptance, humor, and the ability to allow others to be who they are, or think what they want, and love them anyway.”2

We hope your holiday is filled with great conversations and many reasons to be grateful for the ordinary and the extraordinary in everyday life in the years to come.

Thanks for choosing to work with us. We’re grateful for you!
